FLY FISHING

Some of the best fly fishing in the world is right here in the Elk Valley. The Elk River is an exceptional dry-fly river that’s season runs from late June often right through to October. West slope cutthroat trout, bull trout and white fish populate the river and it’s 30 plus tributaries. There is something here for all the fishermen in your group.

GOLFING

Fernie Golf and Country Club

Noted for the majestic scenery, you have mountain vistas in every direction at each hole.

The course is a par 70, 6556 yards long and rated in the top 25 of BC’s courses. The course has a new clubhouse where you can enjoy good food and drinks on the elevated terrace overlooking the Three Sisters and Ghost Rider Mountains.

HIKING

Uphill, downhill, along the river’s edge… There are so many places to hike in the Elk Valley its hard to know where to start. Whether you are looking for a quiet afternoon walk or a strenuous full day affair Fernie has the trail for you. Many trail maps/guides are available in Fernie to direct you or join a guided hike where you will learn about the local flora and fauna and local history while you hike.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Trails abound around Fernie for mountain biking. There are a couple of great beginner trails and tons of intermediate and expert trails for those extreme bikers. The Elk Quad chairlift at Fernie Mountain Resort runs from July 1 through to September 5 so you can save your energy and just ride down the hill.

WHITE WATER RAFTING

Fernie’s famous powder melts each year into our local rivers to provide great rafting from early spring to late summer. Starting out from Fernie you can experience the grandeur of the Canadian Rockies, the excitement of white water or a gentle cruise along some of the most scenic terrain available.
