What can you say? When you simply get up every morning to this amazing sight of yet more snow. The snow banks are higher then the trucks that park in them, higher then the street signs, higher then the people who shovel their driveways and higher then the Fernie Bus that drives down our street!

A small change of pace this weekend. My family came down from Edson Alberta for a visit so we went for a snow shoe and had a blast.

Sledding in Fernie

All riders are professionals and this should not be attempted at home. :)

Always ride with avalanche equipment and learn how to use it.

So a change of pace from the ski hill this weekend. A few friends came down for a visit so with the blue sky day and deep deep snow I thought I would get a small inventory of pictures for you all. We mostly rode just off of Morrissey in the rolling hills. The avalanche hazard these days is still very high so no need to venture off into high risk areas especially when there is epic snow in everywhere. Did we have a great day? Well let the pictures speak for themselves.

Paul would be out skiing that great snow of ours if he was here but as great people do great things he's off creating amazing memories for himself and raing funds for a wonderful chairity.
Keep on Keep'n on Paul!

From snow to sun!

January is good in Fernie

Heidi and I had a great time rding the White Pass chari with Shan and Emma from the Fernie Alpine Ski Team. Happy ski racers, happy locals, happy visitors... everyone is happy and enjoying the soft deep snow this year. What are you doing???
24 Hour: 3 cm / 1 in
Snow Pack: 255 cm / 100 in
48 Hour: 20 cm / 8 in
Year to Date: 509 cm /200 in
7 Day: 84 cm / 33 in

It use to be that January was quiet in Fernie. The snow always keeps falling but locals use to have it all to themselves. Not so much anymore. But you know what? That's just fine. If you saw how short the line ups were and how fast people get to the top you would be impressed. And the snow?? well, WOW. They opened Currie today and it was saweeeet!

First Tracks

Gun Tower top of Bear giving us the go!
Well it pays to have a friend with the inside scoop. Our friend Simon was kind enough to think of us yesturday when he e mailed us to sign up for first tracks this morning. For those of you who don't know about this great option... you're on the lift by 8:00am, an hour before everyone and you ski 6-8 runs before anyone else makes their first turn! No waiting, no fighting for fresh snow, just a small group and the biggest smile ever. So when you have a fun group like ours this morning, (a morning that had over 30cms in the past 24hrs) well, the video will show you just how good it was. (Bear with my novice video skills, I'm a tad rough at first but it gets better and you clearly see how good the snow is)

24 Hour: 30 cm / 12 in
Snow Pack: 252 cm / 99 in
