Snowshoeing at Island Lake Lodge

Today I had the opportunity to go snowshoeing at Island Lake Lodge.
We started with a snowcat ride from the lower parking lot.

Once up there we donned some snowshoes and went around the lake and through a meadow. It was a bluebird day and the views were incredible.

We returned to the lodge to warm up with hot chocolate and then a delicious lunch

It was a great way to spend a day in the mountains!

Call Fernie Central Reservations at 1-800-622-5007 to book a snowshoeing trip of your own.

Shredder the Drug Peddler

The Shredder seen here tear'n up an innocent picnic table. (You'll never have lunch there again)
"I said Grrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeen!!"

Mild mannered Pharmacist Lee Simms may be prim and proper behind his counter at Fernie's local Value Drug mart but when he's out from behind his desk this Clark Kent of the drug world turns loose his alter ego "The Shredder". Though difficult to catch on film as he is normally moving at lightning speeds and huck'n massive air, the Shredder stopped only for a brief second yesterday as photographers snapped these two pictures. Notice the intensity in his scary eyes. The Shredder has been also dubbed as the sasquatch of Fernie Alpine Resort as he is rarely seen by locals jib'n picnic tables.
CAUTION- Don t make any attempts to approach the Shredder on the hill folks! wait until he subsides back into our friendly neighborhood Pharmacist Lee Sims. Father of many, husband to one and friend to all creatures big and small.
FAR SKI REPORT:
All Bowls are now OPEN!- Corduroy Joy!
Enjoy the wall to wall grooming out on the mountain.
- Now more terrain to explore, with Snake Ridge & Siberia Ridge open for the first time this season.
- Due to our earlier dumps of snow, we are enjoying awesome coverage!

Snow conditions: Packed powder and machine groomed runs.
Runs: 106 available. 50-60 freshly groomed.

Man I just love living in Fernie...

Tuesday, January 13, 2009

One for the books!

While rolling down the windows with his arms and feeling the wind blow through his stylish fury hat, extreme Simon (aka Waxed Piney) finds himself floating over the Alpine in a what will be remembered as a pooper chair pose. Simon noticed a group photographers set up from National Geographic shooting a rare dwarf bald eagle and decided to jump over the bird to poach the moment and get this epic photo. Though no one (besides three photographers) we're hurt in this stunt we recommend you have skills and style similar to Simon's before attempting such a jump.

This will be another short report, I've got two things to do today, get on the first chair to enjoy this huge dump of snow and replace the tires on my car (which are the biggest mis-use of the word "all-season", I almost never made it to work today...) There's tons of powder to be had and its warm out. See you on the hill!
