Well it was a glorious weekend in Fernie and I spent most my time at Fernie Alpine Resort as a spectator at the Full Throttle Bike Festival (other than the 7 hours I spent in the hospital with my son with a badly broken wrist - after a wipe out on the course - but that's a story for another day perhaps!) The race was a blast to watch and I have to say the festival gets better every year. This was the 4th annual festival and from a spectator's perspective I think it must have been a huge success. Saturday Aug 22 they hosted the Super D Downhill which is always amazing to watch because of the speed, adrenaline and all out courage those riders have to have to hurl themselves down the rocky mountain trail on a grueling 12 minute course. Live music in the plaza was a welcome diversion after the race with some cold ones to refresh during the heat of the day! Sunday the festival offered another great spectator sport ~ the dual slalom. What a riot it was to watch, and it was another sunny hot day! There was more live music, bike trials demonstrations, an adventure photo contest and many more activities and events to watch or take part in. All in all it was a great weekend in Fernie. The weather looks like it is going to hold for a while and stay sunny and warm ~ and there's still so much to do yet this summer that I am hoping to still fit in, like a float on the Elk river, hike Heiko's trail, continue to explore more mountain bike trails, just to name a few!
