Well I was lucky enough to be an organizer for the Canadian Fly Fishing Championships that were held in Fernie last week. It was the most enjoyable week of the summer! There were over 40 participants from across Canada here to experience the incredible fishing this area has to offer over a 5 day event. I met some very serious fisherman who fish all over the world that were blown away by the world class fly fishing rivers and lakes, the incredible scenery and the amazing locals that Fernie has to offer! I did not meet one participant that didn't say they were coming back in the future, and I even met a few who were going home to make arrangements to move to Fernie! It is a great feeling when you meet people that enthused about your chosen home!

Fernie is a great place to spend time in the fall. The fall colours in the forests are enticing enough to go hiking every chance you get, mountain biking trails are at their best with crunchy yellow leaves to float over, and Thanksgiving is just around the corner......join us in Fernie for the family celebration this year.

The weather has been superb for weeks now and the Elk River is a great place to spend the day. While biking along the dike last weekend I saw numerous people enjoying the river. Some were paddling, fishing on shore or from a boat, or just walking or riding bikes through the trails that wind their way along the river.

They are calling for a gorgeous weekend which bodes well for the annual event of the year in Fernie - The Taste of Fernie. It runs this Friday night September 18 and most of Saturday, September 19. With 13 restaurants involved it is sure to be a great place to enjoy a meal with friends. Barney Bentall is the headliner on Saturday night, and there will be dancing in the streets in Centennial Square this weekend! Watch for news in next week's blog about the upcoming Canadian Fly Fishing Championships to be held in Fernie September 23-27!

Every September in Fernie the best cooks in the city gather at CP Station Square to showcase samples of their culinary skill. Fernie Brewing Co., along with a sommelier or two, provide the refreshments. Local performers display their talents & this year's headliner is Barney Bentall.
